The group will include periods of reflection and silence as well as group discussion, talks on relevant themes and opportunities for celebration and community building. What the Buddha Taught, an Introduction to Buddhism ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Sunday, August 22, 9:30am- 5pm
Taught with Sobonfu Somé. This day benefits the Spirit Rock Program and is open to all. This daylong is a transformational and soul-invigorating workshop designed to break through our cultural barriers of grief. There is a need to periodically feel and express grief in order to purge the soul from hurts and pains. The interdiction and suppression of emotion in general, and grief in particular, has recently been linked to the general sense of spiritual drought, emotional confusion and certain illnesses we experience in our life. To begin to regain a serious and lasting sense of connectedness with ourselves and with spirit, we need to find a proper place to release our grief -- grief about all the losses we have endured in this lifetime, the loss of loved ones, the loss of our dreams and the loss of our connection with our ancestors. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Thu, Oct 21, 3:00 pm - Sun, Oct 31, 12:00 pm (10 nights) Insight Meditation Retreat (Lottery) This retreat will emphasize quieting the mind, opening the heart, and developing clarity and depth of practice. Traditional meditation instruction will be combined with a spirit of lovingkindness and silent sitting, walking, dharma talks and interviews.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fri, Nov 19, 3:00 pm - Sun, Nov 28, 12:00 pm (9 nights) Thanksgiving Insight Meditation Retreat Spend the holiday in the good company of like-minded community. Enjoy the silence of the land and the sitting and walking practice of Insight meditation (Vipassana). As we slow down and look within, our natural capacity for wisdom and compassion awakens. Even in difficult times we discover love, joy and peace are accessible. Vipassana is an ancient and proven method of discovering and nurturing our natural capacities for understanding and love. Will open on Jul 19, 2010 - Forms available at that time There will be meditation instructions for sitting and walking meditation, periods of movement, dharma talks and interviews with the teachers. http://www.spiritrock.org/calendar/display.asp?id=212R10&type=retreats ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
