This silent retreat will focus on cultivating the quality of loving kindness (Metta in Pali), infusing our hearts, minds and bodies with a strong caring wisdom. Mindful presence and loving-kindness are essential to living a spiritual life. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice leads to clarity, insight and understanding. Loving kindness practices open the heart, allow a kind embrace of ourselves, and connects us intimately with all of life. The fusion of these qualities helps us to respond more compassionately to the challenges that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.

Qigong is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. With roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts, and philosophy, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance (chi) or what has been translated as 'intrinsic life energy.' It recognizes, cultivates and nourishes the 'energy' aspect of our being. Qigong perfectly complements traditional sitting meditation practice and has a long and well-established history connected to contemplative traditions.

On this retreat the Loving Kindness practices will be supported by periods of guided instruction as well as Qigong meditation, and regular meetings with the teachers. All are welcome to attend!

Special Opportunity for an extended retreat: If you would like to have a longer retreat period (18 nights), you can register for BOTH the Metta retreat (280R17) and the July Insight Meditation Retreat (282R17). If you are interested in this option, we will have 20 BYPASS spots available where you can bypass the lottery for the July Insight Meditation Retreat. These spots are available to the FIRST 20 applicants. You must register for BOTH retreats at the same time. Online registration will be open on February 14th for both of these retreats, no sooner.

Spirit Rock extends a special invitation to young adults (age 18-26) who wish to attend this retreat at a rate of $35 per night, on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of special rates are available, please apply early.

For more information about Hemera Foundation Scholarships: ONE scholarship allowed per person, per calendar year.

Also remember that the cost above is priced as a sliding scale. Please pay at the highest level of the sliding scale that you can afford. This allows others who need to pay less the opportunity to attend. Fee is for room and board. Teaching and staffing of the retreats is by donation at the end of the retreat.
