Join me for a fun evening! I will be signing books and giving a short reading!

About the book:
“Cultivating a fierce heart is about learning to embrace it all, even the most painful aspects of our life—every experience and all of yourself.”
– Spring Washam

In A Fierce Heart, Spring Washam shares her contemporary, unique interpretation of the Buddha’s 2,500-year-old teachings, with short chapters that get to the heart of mindfulness, wisdom, loving-kindness, and compassion.

Woven throughout the book are stories from the author’s life, family, and ancestors, along with many soulful, heartfelt stories from all over the world. Three Day Non-Residential Retreat in Missouri

  • Forest Park Visitor Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Join me for this beautiful weekend weekend retreat in St. Louis, Missouri. This will be a non-residential retreat hosted by the community of Mid-America dharma.

Title - Love is the Answer

The Buddha once said, "We can look the whole world over and find no one more deserving of our love and kindness than ourselves." Metta practice protects the mind from falling into habitual patterns of reactivity that undermine our sincerest intentions to be happy. Also referred to as a mind liberating practice, it can awaken powerful healing energies that brighten and lift the mind to increasing levels of joy and clarity. Our greatest and most challenging task on the spiritual path is to learn to love and accept ourselves in every moment. Self-hatred, inner aggression and self-criticism are rooted in a mind that is confused and suffering. When we really love and honor ourselves there are no more questions.

This is an excellent weekend retreat for all those who feel energetically stuck in the past and are unable to break free and move forward. In this retreat we will focus on Metta practice, self-compassion and forgiveness in order to let go.

Date: Monday, December 11, 3:00pm - Sunday, December 17, 11:30am

Register: Will open for registration on 8/8/2017

Details: This silent retreat will focus on cultivating the quality of loving kindness (metta in Pali), infusing our hearts, minds and bodies with a strong caring wisdom. Mindful presence and loving-kindness are essential to living a spiritual life. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice leads to clarity, insight and understanding. Loving kindness practices open the heart, allow a kind embrace of ourselves, and connects us intimately with all of life. The fusion of these qualities helps us to respond more compassionately to the challenges that we encounter in ourselves and in the world.

Qigong is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. With roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts, and philosophy, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance (chi) or what has been translated as 'intrinsic life energy.' It recognizes, cultivates and nourishes the 'energy' aspect of our being. Qigong perfectly complements traditional sitting meditation practice and has a long and well-established history connected to contemplative traditions.

On this retreat the Loving Kindness practices will be supported by periods of guided instruction as well as Qigong meditation, and regular meetings with the teachers. All are welcome to attend!

-Maya Angelou

How do we live balanced, embodied, meaningful lives amid the complexities of our lives as contemporary women? How do we meet our ever-changing bodies with acceptance, love, and a sense of humor? How do we respond wisely to our current social and environmental realities that call for our unique contribution?

We all need nourishing spaces to slow down and listen to the wisdom of our bodies-so we can grow into the wise, wild, present, and joyful women that the world desperately needs. Join a diverse circle of women for a retreat that integrates a seamless flow of mindfulness meditation in both movement and in stillness. We will consciously create a nourishing space for women of all races, sizes, ages, sexual identities, religions and classes to dive into the depths of our individual and collective rivers. We'll honor the lineages of awakened women as we sit and move in a circle of sisters, grandmothers, mothers, and daughters.

Seated meditation will alternate with periods of qigong, gentle yoga, and guided movement explorations--releasing habitual tension and returning us to the river of love, awareness, and wisdom that is our birthright. We learn to sustain an unbroken flow of embodied mindfulness in a durable and flexible way that translates directly to our daily lives. Through stilling the mind and moving the body freely, we awaken a well-spring of power and energy so we can return to the world as our full selves. All those who identify as women are welcome.

Learning to let go and live in the moment is at the very heart of the spiritual path.  Everything can be summed up into these two words, “Let go”.  We long for serenity but this only comes from making peace with the past.
