A Fierce Heart Daylong: InsightLA

Please join me for a meaningful daylong of inspiring teachings at InsightLA. Learning to meet the inner and outer challenges of life with an open heart takes a fierceness that we can develop and cultivate through practice. On our spiritual path, we balance the two great wings of awakening: wisdom and compassion. Perfect wisdom gives rise to perfect compassion. During this daylong, we will explore wisdom, compassion, strength, and courage. This day will include periods of meditation, teachings on the theme of the day and group discussions. There will be a practical emphasis on how we apply and live these powerful teachings in our everyday lives. This is an excellent program for those new to practice as well as for experienced practitioners.

Living a Mindful and Compassionate Life- 5-Day Meditation Retreat

Living a Mindful and Compassionate Life- 5-Day Meditation Retreat

  • Royal Way Spiritual Retreat Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

During this silent retreat we will explore how the Buddha's teachings offer a path to inner peace, freedom and the compassionate heart. Awareness as developed through mindfulness practice and love (Metta) are the essential ingredients to any spiritual life. Awareness leads to clarity, insight and understanding. Love opens the heart, allows a kind embrace of ourselves and connects us intimately with all of life. The fusion of love and mindfulness supports a compassionate response to the pain that we encounter in ourselves and in life.

In this retreat of meditation practice we will discover how these qualities are intimately related and mutually supportive and why they are necessary in any journey of awakening in learning to live wisely and kindly in the world. We will draw guidance from the teachings and practices of the Buddha and inspiration from the life of Martin Luther King who beautifully expressed in his words and actions the power of compassion and its response to suffering and injustice in the world.

This retreat will include comprehensive meditation instruction for sitting and movement meditation, as well as talks, group discussions and mindful movement. Suitable for beginning and experienced students. Time in retreat allows us to step out of the complexity of our life, to listen deeply to our body, heart and mind.

Retreatants are encouraged to practice mindfulness in a continuous way, staying with their own present experience as it unfolds, moment to moment. In this silent and mindful environment, awareness sharpens, the body quiets, the mind clears, and space opens for insight and understanding to develop.  Three healthy vegetarian meals are provided for participants and dietary restrictions are accommodated to whenever possible.

Within each woman there is an ever-flowing fountain of creative energy and innate wisdom. Within the safe and nourishing container of this silent retreat, we’ll cultivate an approach to meditative practice that honors the feminine, intuitive and embodied dimensions of a woman’s spiritual journey.

Join a diverse circle of women on the path of embodied presence in this meditation retreat designed to awaken and empower ourselves. Whatever your age, ethnicity, body type, or sexual orientation, as women we share a common longing to heal our hearts, honor our interconnectedness and take empowered action in the world.

We will use the tools of mindfulness meditation, loving-kindness, body-based practices, mandala drawing and dharma talks to transform the deep conditioning that can keep us from continually expressing our essential value.

All those who self-identify as women are welcome.

Spirit Rock extends a special invitation to young adults (age 18-26) who wish to attend this retreat at a rate of $35 per night, on a first come, first serve basis. A limited number of special rates are available, please apply early.

Cultivating Joy: Living from the Overflow

In the Buddhist tradition, Joy is an essential ingredient on the spiritual path. It is one of the seven factors of enlightenment and one of the four Brahma Viharas, often translated as the four “heavenly abodes.” Joy is not only a mind state but also a quality of the heart that celebrates the good in us and in others. We can learn to cultivate this precious quality and practice living a more joy-filled life. All are welcome to come and join this half-day class.

This half day class will be followed by a “Until We Meet Again” Going Away Celebration & Potluck for Spring Washam from 1:00 - 4:00PM
